The preparations for the Arab Summit, which is scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia in March, are underway through contacts and consultations that support joint Arab action, diplomatic sources told Asharq Al-Awsat.

The sources revealed the expected visit of a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Arab League to Riyadh in order to prepare for the summit.

They noted that Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit plans to visit some Arab capitals in the coming weeks, including possibly Riyadh, to boost joint Arab action and search for new mechanisms to enable the organization to play its role in serving Arab interests.

Abul Gheit will kick off on Sunday a two-day visit to Djibouti, where he will meet with President Ismail Omar Guelleh to discuss relations between the Arab League and the African country, the latest developments in the Horn of Africa and means of boosting Arab-African cooperation.

His spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said in a statement on Saturday that the visit will be the first by a League chief to the country since 2002.

Afifi explained that the visit aims at discussing the most important issues on the agenda of the next ministerial Arab League meeting, especially since Djibouti will preside over the council.

Abul Gheit is also set to hold talks with Mahmoud Ali Yousuf, Djibouti's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
